ROFR - Right of First Refusal

Protecting Ratepayers by Guarding Wisconsin’s Power Grid

Wisconsin’s power grid faces threats from opportunistic developers and hedge funds prioritizing profits over the state’s interests. With the recent approval of projects from the Midwest grid operator, known as MISO (Midcontinent Independent System Operator), Wisconsin ratepayers could pay an additional $1 billion over the life of those transmission lines. With an estimated $4.1 billion in transmission upgrades planned in the next decade, a Right of First Refusal (ROFR) law is essential to ensure Wisconsin ratepayers are protected from costly delays and price hikes. Similar laws in seven other Midwestern states have proven effective at shielding consumers and businesses from predatory practices. MISO just announced new grid projects, so the clock is ticking now. The urgency to enact ROFR is growing. Join the WI4ROFR coalition to help.
